Finding Jesus - The Story Isn't Over

Hope Happens!
Christian home. Youngest Child. Drinking. Drug Addiction. Heroin. Meth. Fentanyl. 15 Day Coma. Ride from Stranger. Treatment. Seeking God. Miracles.
“The craving for the drug disappeared; my life was changed. I was homeless and on the street. Now I’m working with Bob, helping with his ministry, and attending Hope City.” - Brent S.
Brent was born in Oregon, raised in a Christian home with loving, attentive parents. He was the youngest of 4 boys. Brent said, “We went to church every Sunday. My parents were really involved.”
As a teenager, Brent’s brother began abusing drugs and Brent followed in big brother’s footsteps. Brent said, “I was drinking every weekend.” Into college, it worsened. “Prescription painkillers took over my life.”
13 years later addicted to drugs, Brent had used Heroin, Meth, and Fentanyl. During this time, Brent strayed away from the church turning his back on God. As Brent says, he became “overcome with culture and worldly ways”.
Brent’s world crashed in December 2020. Brent last remembers being in the back of a car and then everything went black. “I overdosed and was in a coma for 15 days. I remember feeling no emotion or pain. I woke up to a tube being pulled out of my throat. I had to relearn how to walk and talk.” It was a miracle Brent suffered no brain damage and was able to leave the hospital.
The near-death experience had changed Brent’s life, but everything didn’t fall into place immediately. Brent was lost but his heart was ready for change.
Then one day, hope happened - God provided help.
Brent found himself lost in Sun City West. He needed a ride, so he went into a nearby golf shop and asked to use the phone to call an Uber. A stranger overheard Brent’s need and offered to give Brent a ride. This stranger’s name is Bob. Bob is a Christian and not only gave a ride to Brent, but befriended him, began to mentor him, and helped Brent get help in treatment.
What changed in Brent is a miracle!
“The craving for the drug disappeared; my life was changed. I was homeless and on the street. Now I’m working with Bob, helping with his ministry, and attending Hope City.”
Much like the story of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) Brent recognizes that he was provided all the things he needed, and he tossed them aside chasing the world. In repentance, Brent turned to God and God has performed miracles in Brent’s life.
Brent’s story isn’t over - and neither is yours.
Continue to seek God because He will show up when you least expect it.
Brent wants you to know:
“Parents - don’t give up on your child, no matter how long it’s been. I was lost for 13 years. Keep praying for them. Miracles happen.”
